MSNS director Francis Nyurang Ding said MAAU, through its deputy president Karim Ibrahim, has promised to work closely with the state, especially in providing technical assistance as it can provide coaches to help Sarawak athletes and coaches. Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS) director, Francis Nyurang Ding said MAAU through its deputy president Karim Ibrahim is looking forward to such joint project such as the recently launched SEA Games training project in Miri where three Sarawak athletes were also involved. The project, which was officially launched by the Minister of Social Development Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom last Friday, involved national athletes and local athletes such as sprinter Ambrose Jilom and middle distance runner Mohd Jiromi Reduan among the athletes. "It was a grand occasion to mark close cooperation between the MAAU and the Sarawak side. "The MAAU deputy president Karim Ibrahim also promised to work closely with us.In fact he said MAAU has never forgotten Sarawak. "He (Karim) said we need to sit down together between both parties to work out further cooperation of such nature, especially in the areas of sprinting where we can learn from expert coaches," said Francis Nyurang. To-date, only one Sarawak athlete in middle distance runner Mohd Jiromi Reduan – a silver medallist in the last SEA Games in Laos – had qualified while the other two athletes in the SEA Games training squad in sprinter Ambrose Jilom and hammer thrower Jacky Wong Siew Cheer had not qualified. A total of 20 athletes are in the Miri stint which lasts over a month where the training had started under the watchful eyes of two Bulgarian coaches Vasco Tsetanu and Dr.Gueorgui Anaviev and national sprint coach Harun Rasheed.
