Penduduk Islam Di Hulu Baram Perlukan Surau ... Muslim population in Upper Baram Need the Surau (place of worship) and Basic Facilities BARAM - Long Akah (also known as Long Aka) is a settlement in interior of the Marudi division of Sarawak on the upper reaches of the Baram River. Long Akah Airport is a STOL (short take-off and landing) airfield, providing access to this remote village from Miri and Marudi. There is a National Secondary School Long Temenggong Datuk Lawai Jau San Ulu Baram there. There are many teachers from the Peninsular and local teaching in the school. Recently, we have received complaints about the problem of teachers in SMK Datuk Temenggong Lawai Jau Long San, Ulu Baram who are in need of a Surau (prayer place) for teachers and Muslim population for congregational prayers there. Ministry of Education should give adequate attention to the problems faced by Muslim teachers who serve in rural areas after their trouble and away from their families. They asked that the relevant authorities can build a prayer house in the area they teach, at least can be used, benefit by the Muslim population there studying the Qur'an, learn Prayer and study obligatory of Islam religion. Teachers working in remote areas of Sarawak should be treated well as they have to be away with their families for so long, and of course they will feel left out, especially without any basic amenities and good infrastructure in rural areas where they serve. However, these teachers still carry out their duties diligently without feeling tired and bored to educate the children. The Ministry of Education should give adequate attention to every problem faced by Muslims and non-Muslims teachers who serve in remote rural areas of Sarawak. The government should build more basic facilities to people in rural Sarawak so that they can live comfortably and be able to generate their own economies by selling their produce and handicrafts to the nearest town. Basic facilities and infrastructure are needed by all people in Ulu Baram, regardless of race, religion and political belief We urge the government or body entrusted with the welfare of the people can go to the ground, see for your-self, the future of teachers and the rural communities, so that their demand for basic facilities can be granted immediately. To the Muslims and generous benefactors, can donate or contribute directly to the teacher and the Muslim population in Ulu Baram, which wants to build a surau, where they lived, so that it becomes a reality. All donations can be channelled to the nearby Islamic Department for their distributed to the relevant parties. We hope the parties entrusted with the welfare of Muslims in Sarawak can channel donations directly to those in need. They can liaise with Miri education department for managing the construction of the Surau later. We only deliver the desire of the teachers and the Muslim population in Ulu Baram, so that we all can contribute and donate to the construction of a Surau in their place later. All donor contributions only God will be rewarded in the hereafter. PAS Miri Chief cum PAS Sarawak Deputy Commissioner iii |
