KUCHING: Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) Bengoh branch will ensure that Barisan Nasional (BN) retain Mambong parliamentary seat in the coming general election.

For that reason, the party will particularly mobilise young party members to help the BN candidate.

According to the party's branch chairman Dr Jerip Susil, although the party had yet to meet with other BN component parties in the area, the party was now moving around.

"When we talk about the election, we (SUPP) will help and I can tell you now that our (SUPP) election machinery is already moving on the ground.

"And what we are doing is to promote and strengthen BN for the parliamentary election," Dr Jerip told reporters yesterday, after presenting 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) 2.0 at Padawan sub-district office, about 40 kilometres from here along Jalan Puncak Borneo.

Dr Jerip, who is Assistant Minister of Public Health, pointed out that the party was helping to discuss and address pertinent issues in the area.

He, however, did not go into details about the issues.

Bengoh is under Mambong seat, where incumbent Datuk Dr James Dawos, who is Deputy Tourism Minister, is widely tipped to defend the seat for BN.

In his speech, Dr Jerip said BR1M was a testimony that BN government cared for the people and those in need.

In view of this, he urged the people to reciprocate the good deeds of BN by continuing to work with and support the government.

"It is crucial for the people to work with the government to repel both internal and external threats because if we are unstable, nothing can be done by the government to develop us," he pointed out.

He explained that the government was able to give BR1M to the people after having reduced subsidies like for diesel and sugar, among others.

Some 679 eligible recipients from 10 villages in Padawan received the BR1M under the first batch.

Among those present were Padawan sub-district SAO Rangen Jamang and Cr Munded Banat, who represented Dawos.
