THE Department of Drainage and Irrigation has completed the construction of 150-metre river erosion control project at Kpg Hulu in Sri Aman at a cost of RM888,377, says Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu.

Jabu, who is also Minister of Rural Development, said proposal for the implementation of river erosion control project at Kpg Hulu and Kpg Hilir in Sri Aman at a cost of RM8 million had been submitted to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment for consideration and approval in the Third Rolling Plan of the current Malaysia Plan.

He was responding to an issue raised by Lingga state assemblywoman Simoi Peri.

In response to an issue raised by Beting Maro assemblyman Razaili Gapor, Jabu said that Sarawak Development Office had received an allocation for the construction of a multipurpose hall in Beladin.

"The project is still in the price quotation stage with the Betong Resident Office. Construction work is expected to commence in Jan next year and is expected to be completed in eight months' time," he said.

Jabu said the construction of multipurpose hall at Kampung Tambak and Muton, funded by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development at a cost of RM200,000 each would be completed by end of this year.

"A proposal to build a multipurpose hall at Kampung Pusa has been shelved for now because the cost of construction cost has exceeded the amount of allocation," he said.

Jabu suggested that Razaili contact the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development about the hall.

For the proposal to build multipurpose halls in Telang Usan constituency, he told its assemblyman Dennis Ngau to immediately apply to Sarawak Development Office or the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development for consideration and approval under the Third Rolling Plan.

Jabu also said the government had approved the implementation of four village street lighting project this year which involved 23 street lamps at Jalan Abg Barieng, Jalan Banding, Rh Peter Sayong and Rh Abit.
