PADAWAN: SMK Siburan and SMK Lake were the first teams from Group B to book semi-final berths of the Zone C U-15 Inter-School football tournament played at SMK Padawan football field yesterday.

Despite a 2-2 draw with SMK Lake in their last league game, SMK Siburan top their group after amassing six points and having a superior goal difference.

In the match, SMK Siburan marched into the second half with a solitary goal cushion. The hardworking Andre Gerinis equalised for SMK Lake through a stiff grounder. SMK Siburan restored their lead in the 52th minute but their joy were short-lived when SMK Lake levelled the score four minute later.

In another match, host SMK Padawan who earlier lost 0-1 to SMK Sematan, bounced back to beat SMK Lundu 2-0.

Both teams are unable to find the breakthrough until the 24th minute when Albert Azman's powerful volley shook the wood-work, and resulted in a chaotic goal-mouth melee which prompted SMK Lundu's Andy Dick to handle the ball from going into the net.

Without hesitation, the referee showed him the red card and awarded the penalty to SMK Padawan. The spot-kick taken by Albert Azman was spot-on to give SMK Padawan the 1-0 lead until the breather.

Upon resumption, SMK Lundu with a player less on the pitch, doubled their efforts but just could not breached their opponents' defence.

Instead, Albert Jai doubled the lead for SMK Padawan after connecting a corner-kick in the dying minutes.

Other results on Tuesday saw SMK Penrissen thrashed SMK Tun Abdul Razak (TAR) 3-0 and SMK Sematan edged SMK Bau 3-2.

In today's semi-finals, SMK Sematan will face SMK Lake and SMK Siburan will square off with host SMK Padawan. The first match will kick-off at 10am at SMK Padawan football field.

Deputy Minister of Tourism Datuk James Dawos Mamit is expected to officiate at the closing cum prize giving ceremony tomorrow.
